Handicaps

GHIN integration, course handicap calculation, and allowance percentages.

What is a Handicap Index?

Your Handicap Index is a portable number that represents your playing ability. It's maintained by the GHIN (Golf Handicap Information Network) system and calculated from your recent posted scores.

The app can automatically pull your official handicap index when you link your GHIN number in your profile.

GHIN Integration

The app integrates with the GHIN system to import handicap data. Individual players link their GHIN number in their profile. Admins can also bulk-import handicaps for all league members at once.

Handicap values are stored as the official GHIN index value. A value of "NH" means the player doesn't have an established index yet.

Course Handicap Calculation

Your Course Handicap for a specific course and tee is calculated as: Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope Rating / 113).

The Slope Rating comes from the course/tee box data. Standard slope is 113, with harder courses having higher slopes (up to 155) and easier courses lower slopes (down to 55).

Allowance Percentage

Events can set a handicap allowance percentage (typically 80-100%). This controls how many strokes of your course handicap you actually receive.

Net Score = Gross Score − round(Course Handicap × Allowance% / 100).

For example, with an 80% allowance and a course handicap of 10, you'd receive 8 strokes.

Tips

  • A 100% allowance gives full handicap strokes. Lower percentages reduce the advantage given to higher handicap players.

League Handicap Tracking

The Handicaps page in each league shows all members' current handicap indexes in one place. Admins can view history and trends, and trigger bulk GHIN imports to keep everyone up to date.
